A Program to Foster Scientific Interest

The Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) has become the epicenter of a new edition of Science Clubs Mexico. This initiative aims to awaken and strengthen scientific and technological vocations among students through interactive workshops, specialized mentorships, and formative experiences with a social focus.
Program Development
The event takes place from July 26 to August 1 at the UABCS facilities. It is part of a national network driven by Science Clubs Mexico, a non-profit civil association dedicated to promoting equitable access to high-quality scientific education in the country. During this period, more than 100 young people actively participate in five thematic clubs.
These clubs allow students to work closely with young researchers and doctoral students from prestigious institutions both nationally and internationally. Participating institutions include the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National Polytechnic Institute, Stanford University, The University of Chicago, the University of Queensland in Australia, Georgetown University in New Zealand, as well as the Center for Biological Research of the Northwest and UABCS itself.
Workshop Themes
The workshops offered cover a wide range of topics. These range from genetics and molecular biology to marine life in reefs. The analysis of the interconnection between natural and social systems is also explored, all from a practical, accessible perspective oriented towards generating scientific projects and responsible actions.
Dr. Marta Piña Zentella, head of the Academic Department of Humanities, was responsible for welcoming the participants. In her speech, she highlighted that a week of intense learning, knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaborative work begins.

Importance of the Initiative
Dr. Piña Zentella emphasized that this type of initiative represents a valuable opportunity to bring students closer to cutting-edge scientific research. It allows them to interact with specialists developing projects in different areas of knowledge, motivating them to view science as a key tool for understanding and addressing the great challenges of today.
Meanwhile, the National Coordination of Science Clubs in Mexico acknowledged the support provided by UABCS to make this edition of the program possible. They highlighted that collaboration with institutions committed to education and research is essential to expand access to high-quality scientific experiences.
Collaboration and Future
The cooperation between UABCS and Science Clubs Mexico underscores the importance of fostering interest in science from an early age. This collaboration not only enriches the students' knowledge but also promotes a scientific culture that can have a significant impact on the country's social and economic development.
