The company supplied specialized material solutions to overcome technical and extreme climate challenges in La Paz.

Engineering Innovation Facing the Gulf of California

Located within the Puerta Cortés resort in La Paz, Baja California Sur, the construction of Marina Residences stands as a high-level architectural benchmark. Building in this coastal environment required advanced material solutions capable of enduring marine conditions and extreme heat.

To address these technical demands, Cemex partnered with De la Peña Ingenieros Civiles from the specification stage. Together, they deployed specialized concrete portfolios engineered to ensure both structural durability and aesthetic precision.

Specialized Material Portfolio

The technological implementation focused on three high-performance concrete solutions:

  • Duramax: Formulated to protect structural elements directly exposed to constant moisture and seawater.

  • Architectural Concrete: Enabled custom surface finishes, distinct textures, and tailored coloration.

  • Density: A lightweight concrete technology designed to reduce structural mass without compromising load capacity.

One of the project's primary engineering milestones was delivering exposed concrete walls that emulate natural wood grain. Experts adjusted the chemical production and pouring process to match the region’s high temperatures, ensuring flawless visual quality.

Material Science for Coastal Infrastructure

Yuri De los Santos, Vice President of Concrete and Construction at Cemex Mexico, emphasized that construction innovation relies heavily on adapting material science to site-specific conditions.

This application of advanced building materials highlights how engineering and technology drive efficiency, durability, and resilience in modern coastal developments.
