Commitment to Environmental Care

La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). This past weekend, La Paz reaffirmed its commitment to the care and restoration of ecosystems by participating in the National Reforestation Day “Sembrando Vida,” led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The event highlighted the ongoing efforts of the local government to promote environmental sustainability through reforestation and responsible water use.

During the event, the acting mayor of La Paz, Amor Fenech Montaño, emphasized the importance of continuous work in environmental care. She stated that in recent years, more than 10,000 trees have been planted in various locations across the municipality. This significant effort has earned La Paz the recognition of “Tree City” on two occasions, a distinction that acknowledges the commitment to responsible management of forest resources and the development of green spaces.

“We have planted more than 10,000 trees in different parts of the municipality, which has contributed to our recognition as a ‘Tree City’,” she remarked.

Reforestation Efforts and Water Management

The reforestation event took place in Ejido El Rosario, organized by state authorities. Fenech Montaño highlighted that the trees planted by the municipality are irrigated with treated water through the Pipa or Purple Line system. This innovative approach allows the city to utilize this resource efficiently while minimizing the use of potable water for maintaining green areas.

“They are watered with treated water through the Pipa or Purple Line, which allows us to take advantage of this resource and reduce the use of potable water in maintaining green areas,” she explained.

This initiative not only supports the reforestation efforts but also promotes sustainable water management practices, crucial in a region where water scarcity can be a pressing issue. The use of treated water reflects a broader strategy to ensure that environmental actions do not compromise essential resources.

Future Goals for Ecosystem Conservation

In her closing remarks, the mayor reaffirmed the municipal government's commitment to promoting actions that contribute to the conservation of ecosystems, the recovery of green areas, and the responsible use of natural resources. This commitment aligns with national goals for environmental sustainability and reflects a growing awareness of the importance of ecological preservation in urban settings.

“We are committed to actions that contribute to the conservation of ecosystems and the recovery of green areas,” she stated.

The participation of La Paz in the National Reforestation Day is a testament to the city's proactive approach to environmental challenges. As climate change continues to pose threats globally, local initiatives like this serve as a model for other municipalities aiming to enhance their environmental stewardship.

The ongoing efforts in La Paz not only aim to improve the local environment but also inspire community involvement and awareness regarding the importance of caring for natural resources. As the city continues to plant trees and develop green spaces, it sets a precedent for sustainable urban development in Baja California Sur.
