The city of La Paz is preparing for an event filled with symbolism and respect for nature. Municipal authorities, environmental organizations, and tourism service providers invite the entire community to the official tribute to the Whale Shark, which will take place at the emblematic Malecon Kiosk. This celebration, scheduled for May 2026, marks the symbolic closing of the sighting season and aims to honor the species that has become the ultimate ambassador for South Californian marine biodiversity.

The event will feature a varied cultural agenda, including photographic exhibitions, educational talks on the biology of these gentle giants, and artistic performances inspired by the sea. For La Paz, the Whale Shark is not just a tourist attraction; it is a key piece of the bay's ecosystem and an economic engine that supports hundreds of families. This tribute seeks to raise awareness among residents and visitors about the importance of good navigation practices and the reduction of plastics to ensure that the La Paz refuge remains a safe place for their feeding and growth.

During the session at the Malecon, scientific institutions are expected to participate, sharing the most relevant data from the 2025-2026 season, highlighting the number of identified specimens and their health status. The tribute at the Kiosk is also an invitation for reflection: although the whale sharks are now departing for deeper waters, our responsibility as "Guardians of the Sea" remains year-round. Families are invited to attend wearing white and join this tribute celebrating the life and majesty of the world's largest fish in its home.
