Neither Privatization Nor Constructions! Defends the Sierra de la Laguna and Debunks Rumors

The municipality of La Paz reaffirms its position as the undisputed protector of its natural heritage. Faced with the wave of rumors and misinformation that recently circulated about supposed irregular constructions, machinery flights, and water privatization in the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere Reserve, Mayor Milena Quiroga has stepped forward to categorically debunk these rumors (locally known as "mitotes"), bringing a message of peace of mind to South Californian families this May 2026.

After conducting a direct inspection in the area, Quiroga confirmed that no works, tourism developments, or mining projects were detected that threaten the ecological balance of the place. She also clarified speculations regarding civil organizations linked to water issues, reminding everyone that the work for water conservation and her participation in such groups has always been public and transparent. The mayor was blunt: the Sierra is not for sale, and projects that threaten the ecosystem will not be allowed.

For La Paz and Los Cabos, the Sierra de la Laguna is not just a beautiful mountain landscape; it is the origin of water, climate, and life itself in the peninsula. It functions as the natural "water tank" that recharges the aquifers we all depend on. By tackling these rumors with direct surveillance actions, the municipal government sets an important precedent: environmental defense is done with facts and transparency, not alarmism. Today more than ever, taking care of our mountains is guaranteeing the future of Baja California Sur.
