A Shift in Tradition
Los Cabos is not just the venue for the upcoming Miss Universe Mexico final; it represents a transformative approach to how beauty pageants are conducted in the country. George Figueroa, the director of Miss Universe Mexico, shared insights into this significant decision during an exclusive interview with CPS Noticias. The move to Los Cabos aims to break away from the conventional indoor settings that have characterized beauty contests in Mexico for decades.
"We are very happy; we wanted to give it a completely different twist, to step out of these four walls that historically, as you know, beauty contests like Señorita Mexico and Nuestra Belleza have always been held in. Los Cabos has absolutely everything to show. The perfect stage is completely Los Cabos, it’s the Pacific, the sunset, so what we are really looking for is to interact with the entire ecosystem, to show not only Mexico what we have but also the whole world,"
said Figueroa.
This new direction not only highlights the natural beauty of Los Cabos but also aims to integrate the local environment into the competition, showcasing the stunning Pacific coastline and breathtaking sunsets as integral elements of the event.
The Role of Selene Zazueta
For Selene Zazueta, Miss Universe Baja California Sur, the opportunity to represent her state in this groundbreaking edition of the pageant is both an honor and a challenge. Zazueta expressed her pride in being part of an event that is making history by taking place in her home state.
"It feels like a lot of pride because this is the first edition that they will hold a Miss Universe Mexico here, so it’s a lot of responsibility but above all a lot of excitement... I have always believed that beauty comes from within, so I think that, beyond a crown, the crown might be the goal you have within a concentration or platform, but a crown does not define your path or your person. I am very excited, more than anxious or nervous, I am really excited; it has been hard work with the entire organization, it is a huge responsibility, but above all, a respect for all my companions and all the people who are going to come here, to be able to receive them with all the love and care, for them to know Los Cabos and my state is something very rewarding,"
Zazueta stated.
Zazueta's perspective emphasizes the deeper significance of the pageant, which extends beyond mere competition. It serves as a platform for personal growth, self-acceptance, and the celebration of authentic beauty.
A New Format for a Global Audience
As the organization prepares for this innovative format, the stakes are high for both the contestants and the host destination. The final, previously announced by Fátima Bosch, is set for August 29 in Los Cabos, which is gearing up to attract national and international attention as it hosts one of the most prestigious beauty competitions in the country.
The event not only aims to elevate the profile of Los Cabos as a tourist destination but also seeks to redefine the narrative surrounding beauty pageants in Mexico. By utilizing the natural landscape as a backdrop, the organizers hope to create a unique experience that resonates with audiences worldwide.
Los Cabos is poised to become the focal point for this year's Miss Universe Mexico, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of beauty pageants in the region. As the event approaches, all eyes will be on this picturesque destination, ready to showcase its charm and allure to the world.
