The Municipal Operating Body of the Drinking Water, Sewerage, and Sanitation System (OOMSAPAL) of Loreto has launched an ambitious modernization phase of its distribution network. This May 2026, work crews are replacing sections of old piping with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) materials, a technology that promises to revolutionize water efficiency in the first capital of the Californias.

The choice of polyethylene is no coincidence; this material stands out for its flexibility, extreme corrosion resistance, and a lifespan exceeding 50 years. By eliminating old pipes that suffered constant ruptures due to pressure and saltpeter, the municipal government aims to drastically reduce the percentage of water lost in underground leaks. This modernization will allow for consistent flow and significantly improve pressure at household connections, responding to one of the population's most pressing demands.

These works are part of a comprehensive urban development plan that seeks to prepare Loreto for the tourism and population growth of the coming years. Local authorities have requested the public's understanding regarding temporary street closures, ensuring that today's inconvenience will translate into a reliable and sustainable water service for the future. In 2026, Loreto demonstrates that investing in basic infrastructure is the foundation for the progress of the entire community.
