The Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive community development. This April 2026, the leading university has launched a program focused on environmental education and the promotion of responsible tourism in the historic communities of San Antonio and El Rosario. This project seeks to empower local residents by providing them with the tools to leverage their rich natural and mining heritage without compromising the region's ecological balance.

Through workshops, interpretive trails, and training sessions led by university professors and students, locals are learning to design sustainable tourism experiences. These activities range from bird watching and identifying endemic flora to guided tours along ancient mining routes that tell the fascinating history of Baja California Sur. The goal is clear: to diversify the local economy, curb youth migration, and turn these La Paz delegations into a model of regenerative rural tourism.

We applaud this synergy between academia and rural communities. Initiatives like the one led by UABCS demonstrate that tourism in our state can go far beyond the sun and sand model, offering visitors a journey back in time filled with learning and respect for nature. San Antonio and El Rosario have immense potential, and with the right guidance this 2026, they are ready to shine as authentic jewels of sustainable tourism in the heart of our peninsula.
