The State Tourism Secretariat and Conanp highlight the region's primary marine sanctuaries for reef and wildlife exploration.

Cabo Pulmo: The Heart of the Gulf of California's Coral Reef

Located in Los Cabos, Cabo Pulmo shelters the only 20,000-year-old hard coral reef in the Gulf of California. It is globally recognized as one of the world's most successful marine conservation stories.

From September to May, divers gather to spot bull sharks, hammerheads, massive schools of jacks, and five protected species of sea turtles.

Marine Biodiversity in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas

The southern region of the state features reefs, rocky formations, and vital coastal wetlands like the Estero San José. Additionally, Cabo San Lucas' Flora and Fauna Protection Area offers world-class diving spots.

Between winter and spring, these coastal waters allow divers to swim alongside mobula rays, sea lions, and migrating humpback whales.

  • Cabo San Lucas: Prime diving season runs from December through May for pelagic species.

  • San José del Cabo: A strategic hub connecting travelers to marine reserves and estuaries.

La Paz and Loreto: Sanctuaries for Marine Mammals

Heading toward the state capital and central region, National Parks guarantee immersive underwater experiences governed by strict eco-tourism protocols.

Within the Espiritu Santo Archipelago in La Paz and the Loreto Bay National Park, divers can encounter whale sharks, orcas, sperm whales, and the giant blue whale.

Eco-Friendly Diving Guidelines:

CONANP reminds visitors to use biodegradable sunscreen, refrain from touching corals or marine life, avoid feeding wildlife, and always follow certified eco-guides' instructions.
