The fishing and aquaculture sector of Baja California Sur has a golden opportunity to modernize. This April 2026, the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fishing (Conapesca) has opened a national call for free, fully online training sessions. The goal is clear: to provide practical tools to producers to improve their profits, optimize their marketing processes, and foster the sustainable growth of ocean-related businesses—an activity that serves as the economic backbone of our peninsula.

These courses are designed for independent fishers, cooperatives, and micro-entrepreneurs within the sector. Key topics include resource management, market strategies, hygienic handling of marine products, and regenerative aquaculture techniques. Since the training is virtual, it allows maritime workers in remote communities of BCS to access specialized knowledge without leaving their work areas, adapting to their actual schedules and needs in 2026. The calendar includes four training options: On April 14, the course “Cooperativism and its participation in the productive chain” will be taught, where the advantages of collective organization and its impact on profitability, as well as strategies for the orderly growth of projects, will be addressed. The workshop on basic aspects of administration focused on aquaculture is scheduled for April 21, with content aimed at optimizing resources, decision making and projecting business growth. On April 23, the course “Social media marketing: strategies for your business” will be offered, which introduces participants to the use of digital tools such as Facebook and Instagram to position products and connect with customers. Finally, on April 28, the basic value-added course will be held, focused on the identification of processes that allow improving profitability and market positioning.

We celebrate the use of digital platforms to democratize technical knowledge. Fishing in Baja California Sur must evolve alongside technology to face current market challenges and climate change. We invite all our local producers to take advantage of these free resources from Conapesca. Investing time in training is the best net you can cast to ensure a more prosperous and sustainable future for your families and our state's marine wealth.
