A Promising Delegation
Seven young athletes from the Impulso program of the La Paz City Council are currently competing in the National Children's Weightlifting Championship, taking place from August 28 to 31 in Irapuato, Guanajuato. These talented individuals represent the capital of Baja California Sur in both the Sub-15 female and male categories. The delegation consists of three competitors in the female category and two in the male category, along with two young athletes from the sports development program.
The athletes have arrived at this prestigious competition after undergoing a rigorous technical and physical training process as part of the weightlifting activities offered by the Impulso program. This initiative aims to provide free sports activities to children and youth, fostering their development and passion for sports.
Commitment to Youth Development
Guillermo Ortalejo Hernández, the Municipal Director of Sports, emphasized that the participation of these young athletes is a testament to the success of the Impulso program, which was implemented by the former mayor, Milena Quiroga Romero. He stated,
"The participation of these young athletes represents one of the results of the work being done through Impulso, a program designed to bring free sports activities to children and youth."
Ortalejo Hernández further highlighted that such competitions provide a platform for young participants to develop their skills, gain competitive experience, and progress towards higher-level competitions. This not only helps in identifying and nurturing new sports talents but also creates opportunities for them to excel in their respective fields.
Training and Expectations
The young weightlifters participating in Irapuato have been preparing under the guidance of coaches Fernanda Espinosa and Mario de los Santos. They have followed a progressive training plan aimed at maximizing their performance during the championship. The coaches have focused on refining the athletes' techniques and building their confidence ahead of the competition.
Among the athletes, the three female competitors in the Sub-15 category stand out, as they have previous experience in national championships and have consistently placed among the top five in their respective events. Their determination and hard work reflect the commitment of the Impulso program to develop competitive athletes.
Ortalejo Hernández remarked,
"Beyond the results obtained in this edition of the championship, the participation of these young athletes represents the continuity of a training process that seeks to detect, develop, and support new talents from the communities."
This initiative not only aims to elevate the standards of sports in La Paz but also fosters a sense of community and teamwork among the participants. The success of the Impulso program is evident as it continues to cultivate a new generation of athletes ready to take on challenges at national and international levels.
As the championship unfolds, the La Paz delegation is poised to make a significant impact, showcasing the potential and dedication of young athletes in Baja California Sur. The journey of these young weightlifters is just beginning, and their participation in this championship marks a crucial step towards achieving their dreams in the world of sports.
