Vaccination Campaign

Aiming for High Immunization Rates

Starting this Monday, October 12, 2026, the health sector of Baja California Sur will launch its winter vaccination campaign with the goal of administering over 219,000 doses against influenza and more than 87,000 doses against COVID-19. The initiative aims to prevent complications from both diseases, as stated by the Secretary of Health, Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro.

"This campaign is crucial for protecting our vulnerable populations during the winter months, when the circulation of both viruses tends to increase,"

Guluarte Castro emphasized.

The vaccination effort will primarily target high-risk groups, including children aged six months to five years who have not previously received the COVID-19 vaccine, requiring a two-dose schedule. Additionally, individuals aged five to 59 with underlying health conditions such as congenital heart or lung diseases, uncontrolled diabetes, morbid obesity, renal failure, cancer, or HIV will also be prioritized. Pregnant women and seniors aged 60 and over are encouraged to participate as well.

Accessibility Across the Region

Vaccines will be available at first and second-level medical units across all five municipalities in Baja California Sur. The Secretary of Health urged those in priority groups to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinated.

"It is essential for individuals in these groups to get vaccinated promptly to ensure they are protected before the peak of viral circulation occurs,"

she noted.

With the rise in both influenza and COVID-19 cases expected during the last months of the year and the first quarter of 2027, the campaign is a proactive measure to safeguard public health. The health department is prepared to handle the anticipated demand for vaccinations, ensuring that adequate supplies are available.

Complementary Health Measures

In addition to vaccination, Guluarte Castro recommended several complementary health measures to enhance immunity and reduce the risk of infection. These include maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins A and C, frequent hand washing, and disinfecting commonly used surfaces.

"Covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, wearing masks if you exhibit respiratory symptoms, and seeking medical consultation are also vital steps in preventing the spread of these viruses,"

she advised.

The winter vaccination campaign represents a significant effort by the Baja California Sur government to protect its residents from the dual threats of influenza and COVID-19. As the health sector mobilizes resources and personnel, the community is encouraged to participate actively in this initiative for their well-being and that of their loved ones. The campaign not only aims to reduce the incidence of these diseases but also to foster a culture of preventive health practices among the population.
