Vigilance Continues in BCS as Tropical Storm Simon Approaches

Monitoring the Situation
This morning, the State Civil Protection Council of Baja California Sur convened to assess the ongoing evolution of Tropical Storm Simon and its potential impact on the region. According to the latest forecasts, the state could experience significant rainfall, with expected precipitation ranging from 25 to 50 millimeters from Friday to Sunday in La Paz, Los Cabos, and parts of Comondú. The storm is currently located approximately 260 kilometers south of Cabo San Lucas, boasting sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 85 kilometers per hour.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to take necessary actions to ensure the safety of our residents,"
said Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, who presides over the State Civil Protection Council.
The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by Friday afternoon, which should reduce its direct impact on the state. However, the potential for heavy rainfall remains a concern, prompting local authorities to remain vigilant.
Precautionary Measures
In light of the impending weather conditions, the governor emphasized the importance of collaboration among various institutions and emergency services to mitigate risks. He urged citizens to stay informed through official channels and to heed the recommendations of authorities.
"It is crucial for everyone to remain updated and to follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and their families,"
he added.
Residents are advised to avoid crossing streams or riverbeds that may swell due to the anticipated rainfall. The government is taking proactive measures to ensure that emergency services are prepared to respond effectively to any incidents that may arise as a result of the storm.
Hurricane Trudy's Approach
In addition to Tropical Storm Simon, the State Civil Protection Council is also monitoring Hurricane Trudy, which is currently classified as a Category 3 hurricane. Trudy is expected to make its closest approach to the coasts of Jalisco over the weekend. Fortunately, forecasts indicate that it will not advance toward Baja California Sur. Instead, the region can expect only increased cloud cover on the 20th and 21st of this month.
"While Hurricane Trudy poses no immediate threat to our state, we must remain cautious and prepared for any changes in the weather,"
stated the governor.
As the situation develops, the State Civil Protection Council will continue to provide updates and guidance to ensure the safety of all residents in Baja California Sur. The community is encouraged to take all necessary precautions and stay alert as the storm approaches.
