Gender Training

Promoting Gender Awareness

In a proactive move towards fostering gender equality, the Government of Baja California Sur has initiated a training program aimed at public servants. This initiative, conducted by the Department of Human Rights within the General Secretariat of Government (SGG), focuses on the course titled "ABC of Gender: Changing Perspectives to Transform Realities." The training saw participation from 16 public servants from the Executive Secretariat of the Commission for the Consolidation of the Criminal Justice System in the region.

The course is designed to equip participants with the necessary tools to identify stereotypes, roles, and inequalities prevalent in society. It also aims to promote substantive equality, non-discrimination, and the prevention of gender-based violence in both institutional and social contexts. Mayra Messina Vázquez, the head of the Human Rights Department, emphasized the importance of this initiative in her statements.

"This training is essential for recognizing the practices and beliefs that can perpetuate conditions of inequality."

Engaging Participants in Reflection

During the training session, participants engaged in reflective exercises and idea exchanges. These activities were crafted to help them recognize and confront the ingrained practices that contribute to gender inequality. The goal is to foster a workplace environment that encourages equitable treatment and respect for all individuals, regardless of gender.

Messina Vázquez elaborated on the significance of these discussions, noting that they are crucial for generating meaningful changes within the public service sector. The training not only addresses immediate concerns but also lays the groundwork for a cultural shift towards equality.

"We aim to extend this training across various areas of the SGG to broaden these essential understandings among our personnel."

A Commitment to Institutional Change

The initiative is part of a broader plan of action by the Department of Human Rights, which aligns with normative provisions regarding the incorporation of gender perspectives in public service. This commitment indicates a strategic approach to embedding gender equality principles within the operational frameworks of government institutions.

The course will be rolled out to different departments within the SGG, with the intent of enhancing knowledge and awareness among all public servants. This approach is expected to contribute significantly to the creation of more equitable and inclusive workplaces.

"Our goal is to build workspaces that are not only fair but also supportive of all employees."

As Baja California Sur continues to navigate the complexities of gender dynamics in public service, this training represents a crucial step towards a more equitable future. The government’s proactive stance on gender issues reflects a growing recognition of the need for systemic change and the importance of education in achieving these goals.
