The initiative is spearheaded by Jesús Montaño, the founder of the Documentary Film Club, who expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

"This showcase is a wonderful opportunity to connect stories from around the world with our local community."

The event will feature six documentary productions, including notable titles such as “45 Days in Harvard,” “Until This Moment Later,” “Mollusk,” “Here I Am,” and “The Children of the Coast.” Additionally, there will be a selection of four short films that won the DOCSMX competition, showcasing the best of contemporary documentary filmmaking.

Engaging with the Community

Screenings will take place at various locations including the Teatro General Manuel Márquez de León, the Public Plaza, and the Las Tinajas vineyard. Attendees will have the chance to interact with filmmakers and representatives of the works, participating in dialogues and exchanges with the audience. This interactive component is designed to foster a deeper connection between the filmmakers and the local community.

"We believe that cinema has the power to bring people together and create meaningful conversations,"

said Montaño.

Concepción Talamantes, the coordinator of Filmmaking at the Ministry of Tourism and Economy, emphasized the significance of this first edition in promoting Baja California Sur as a destination for audiovisual creation, exhibition, and promotion. She highlighted that the event will not only enhance cultural options for residents and visitors but also stimulate the local economy.

Economic Impact and Future Prospects

Talamantes noted that the influx of participants and visitors will benefit the local economy through increased demand for accommodation, food, commerce, and tourism services. She stated,

"From the Filmmaking Coordination, we recognize the importance of continuing to promote projects that link cinema with tourism, culture, and community development."

This initiative is expected to pave the way for future cultural events in the region, positioning Todos Santos as a hub for artistic expression and community engagement.
