A Milestone in Public Transportation
The Tiburón Urbano (TU) service in La Paz has reached a significant milestone, celebrating two years of operation since its launch on August 19, 2021. With over 2.8 million trips completed, the TU has established itself as a modern, safe, and efficient transportation alternative for the city's residents. This achievement was highlighted by the acting mayor of La Paz, Amor Fenech Montaño, who emphasized the importance of this service in enhancing the daily lives of citizens.
"This transportation system is part of the vision that former mayor Milena Quiroga Romero had to improve the mobility of our city. And today, these figures reflect the trust of the people and the importance it represents in the daily lives of citizens,"
stated Fenech Montaño.
The TU operates a fleet of 20 units equipped with air conditioning and onboard surveillance systems, ensuring a comfortable and secure travel experience for passengers. The service has been designed to cater to the needs of families in La Paz, providing a reliable means of transportation across various routes in the city.
Routes and Real-Time Monitoring
Currently, the Tiburón Urbano offers several routes, including SMT 01, which runs from Camino Real to Vinoramas; SMT 01B, from Camino Real to Márquez de León; and SMT 02, from Vista Real to the Panteón. Each of these routes is monitored in real-time, allowing users to track the location of the units through the La Paz app. This feature not only enhances user experience but also aids in planning their journeys more effectively.
The implementation of a real-time tracking system is a significant advancement in public transportation, as it provides passengers with the ability to know exactly when their bus will arrive. This level of transparency is crucial in building trust and reliability in public transport systems.
Inclusivity and Future Expansion
In addition to its modern features, the Tiburón Urbano has introduced an electronic payment system using prepaid cards, making transactions more convenient for users. Passengers can recharge their cards and access service information through the app, further simplifying their travel experience. The units are also designed with special spaces for pregnant women, people with disabilities, and senior citizens, promoting an inclusive public transport environment.
The success of the Tiburón Urbano has not gone unnoticed at the federal level. The acting mayor announced that President Claudia Sheinbaum will be sending new units to expand the service in La Paz. These additional units are expected to arrive in the coming months, as efforts continue to coordinate with the federal government.
As the Tiburón Urbano continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the commitment of local authorities to improve public transportation and enhance the quality of life for La Paz residents. With its modern amenities and focus on safety and inclusivity, the TU is set to play a pivotal role in the future of urban mobility in the region.
