The True Legacy of the 2026 World Cup: 48 New Sports Spaces to be Built in the Peninsula

The fever for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has spread throughout Mexico, and the Baja California region is no exception. Taking advantage of the framework of this historic sporting event where our country is a co-host, authorities have announced a project that will leave a much more lasting impact than a trophy: the creation and rehabilitation of 48 new sports spaces in honor of the World Cup.

This initiative seeks to decentralize the World Cup euphoria and bring it to the neighborhoods and communities that most need recreational infrastructure. The new soccer fields, basketball courts, and multi-purpose areas are designed to promote grassroots sports, encourage physical activity among families, and, above all, offer young people healthy alternatives that keep them away from antisocial behaviors. In a 2026 where a sedentary lifestyle is a public health challenge, having dignified and safe facilities is a community victory.

The great challenge now will be the preservation of this new infrastructure. The success of these 48 spaces will not only depend on the ribbon-cutting but on the sense of belonging that neighbors develop and the continuous maintenance by municipal authorities. The true legacy of the 2026 World Cup won't be measured by the goals we cheer for on TV, but by the boys and girls who, thanks to these new courts, will take their first steps toward a life full of sports and discipline.
