Consultation on Mobile Phones in Schools

Overview of the Consultation

The Director General of Basic Education at the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), José María Hernández Manríquez, announced that approximately 3,500 teachers from Baja California Sur participated in a national consultation regarding the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices in basic education schools. This consultation was conducted by the federal SEP during the intensive phase of technical councils, just before the current school year commenced.

Hernández Manríquez emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it aims to gather diverse perspectives on the role of technology in educational environments. The results of these surveys will be processed by the SEP and presented in September for further analysis and discussion in regional forums, which will include specialists, parents, and other stakeholders.

"The objective is to establish guidelines that reflect the opinions of all involved parties,"

he stated.

Support Packages for Schools

To facilitate this consultation, each school received a support package designed to guide the process. This package included a video, contextual information, and a digital questionnaire. The intention was to ensure that participation extended beyond mere opinions; it aimed to foster analysis and propose actionable measures regarding the use of devices in educational settings.

Hernández Manríquez noted that the comprehensive approach of the consultation is crucial for understanding the implications of mobile phone usage in classrooms. He remarked on the necessity of adapting to technological advancements while ensuring that educational integrity is maintained.

"We want to analyze and propose measures that will benefit our students and the educational community as a whole,"

he added.

Upcoming State Forum

In addition to the consultation, Hernández Manríquez announced that a state forum titled “First Space for Encounter and Dialogue among Teachers Three Years into the New Mexican School” will take place next week at the La Paz Convention Center. This forum aims to create a platform for teachers to share insights and experiences related to the New Mexican School initiative.

The nine presentations selected from this forum will represent Baja California Sur at the regional forum scheduled for September 22 in Hermosillo, Sonora. This opportunity highlights the commitment of educators in the region to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute to the evolution of educational practices.

"This forum will allow us to showcase the innovative ideas and challenges faced by our teachers,"

he concluded.

As the consultation progresses and the forums unfold, the educational landscape in Baja California Sur may see significant shifts influenced by the collective input of its educators, parents, and specialists. The outcomes of these discussions will be pivotal in shaping future policies regarding technology use in schools.
