Strengthening the Culture of Wills in Baja California Sur

A Collaborative Effort with Notaries
The Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, recently convened a working meeting with members of the College of Notaries of Baja California Sur, led by Nancy Lorena Hevia Aguilar. This meeting was focused on discussing initiatives related to the campaign titled September, Month of the Will. The collaboration aims to raise awareness about the importance of wills in ensuring the proper distribution of family assets and preventing potential conflicts.
Accompanied by Claudia Elena Meza de la Toba, the acting Secretary General, Castro Cosío highlighted the joint efforts made with the College of Notaries, which have allowed citizens to benefit from this program. He emphasized that the initiative provides individuals with the opportunity to secure their legacies and avoid future disputes among family members. The Governor also acknowledged the commitment of notaries to assist vulnerable individuals with various legal processes.
"We have worked together to ensure that citizens can access this essential document, which is crucial for family harmony,"
he stated.
Discounts to Encourage Will Creation
During the meeting, the president of the College of Notaries announced that public notaries in the state will offer a 50% discount on will processing fees throughout September and October. The cost for creating a will will be reduced to 2,600 pesos, making it more accessible for families to secure their legacies. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance notarial services and promote the importance of wills in the community.
The president also provided an overview of the activities conducted this year, highlighting significant improvements in notarial services. This includes efforts to streamline processes and make them more user-friendly for the public. The announcement of the discount is expected to encourage more individuals to take the necessary steps to create their wills and protect their families.
"This is an opportunity for families to ensure their wishes are honored and to prevent legal complications in the future,"
she remarked.
The Importance of Wills for Family Security
In his address, Castro Cosío underscored the significance of creating a will as a legal act that guarantees the orderly distribution of a person's assets after their passing. He stressed that having a will not only provides peace of mind for families but also helps avoid legal disputes that can arise when there is no clear directive regarding asset distribution.
"Every will is one less conflict in the courts and one step closer to a society with peace and tranquility,"
he added, urging citizens to consider the implications of not having a will.
The Governor's message was clear: creating a will is not merely a legal formality; it is a responsible act of love and care for one's family. He called on the community to embrace the culture of foresight and protection for their loved ones, emphasizing that a will is a vital tool in safeguarding family harmony.
As the campaign progresses, the government aims to foster a greater understanding of the importance of wills and encourage more residents to take advantage of the available resources. The initiative is seen as a crucial step towards building a more informed and prepared society, where families can navigate the complexities of inheritance with confidence and clarity.
