Enhanced Vigilance Against Screwworm Threat

The State Security Council of Baja California Sur has announced a series of measures aimed at reinforcing the control of livestock movement in response to the increasing threat posed by the screwworm. This decision was made during a session led by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, who emphasized the importance of protecting the local agricultural community.

In attendance were key figures such as José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, the Secretary of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Agricultural Development (SEPADA), and Heriberto Rochín Araiza, President of the Regional Livestock Union of Baja California Sur. The meeting concluded with a commitment to establish working groups across the five municipalities to address this pressing issue.

"We must take immediate action to safeguard our livestock and the livelihoods of our ranchers,"

stated Governor Castro Cosío during the session.

Coordinated Efforts for Effective Control

To effectively implement these measures, the state will collaborate closely with the National Defense and Navy Secretariats, as well as the National Guard. Increased surveillance will be particularly focused on the main access points to the state, especially at the borders with Baja California and the Port of Pichilingue. The authorities have made it clear that there is currently no authorization for the entry of live cattle from other states in Mexico, reinforcing the need for strict controls to prevent illegal imports.
