Strengthening Municipal Services in La Paz's Rural Communities

Direct Engagement with Citizens

The initiative known as “Presidenta en tu Delegación” has been making significant strides in enhancing municipal services in rural areas of La Paz. This program aims to provide direct access to municipal services, ensuring that the needs of the communities are met promptly and effectively. Under the leadership of interim mayor, Amor Fenech Montaño, the program has already reached out to communities such as Todos Santos, El Pescadero, and El Sargento.

The program was originally conceived by the mayor on leave, Milena Quiroga Romero, as a strategy to bring various municipal government departments closer to the neighborhoods. This approach allows for targeted interventions based on the specific challenges faced by residents. Fenech Montaño emphasized the importance of this initiative in her recent statements, highlighting the commitment to addressing local issues directly.

“This initiative was born from the need to connect with our citizens and understand their challenges firsthand,” said Fenech Montaño.

Impactful Community Interventions

Since its inception, the “Presidenta en tu Delegación” program has successfully executed numerous interventions aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. Notably, the program has repaired 226 potholes, fixed 32 streetlights, and cleaned 5.8 kilometers of roadways through manual sweeping and debris removal. These efforts are crucial in ensuring safer and more navigable streets for the community.

In terms of mobility and road safety, the program has also undertaken significant maintenance work, which includes the painting of 18 ramps for individuals with disabilities and the establishment of 640 linear meters of pedestrian crossings. Additionally, more than 1,600 linear meters of curbs and road signage have been installed across various locations, enhancing the overall safety and accessibility of the area.

“We are committed to making our streets safer for everyone, especially for those who need it the most,” the interim mayor added.

Social Services and Community Support

Beyond urban improvements, the program has also focused on social services, exemplified by a recent event in Todos Santos where nearly 500 free services were provided to families. These services included medical and nutritional consultations, legal advice, and support from the Municipal DIF. The initiative also addressed issues related to family and gender violence, offering guidance and resources to those in need.

Furthermore, the program facilitated the sterilization of pets and responded to various citizen requests, showcasing a comprehensive approach to community support. Fenech Montaño reiterated the program's commitment to expanding its reach, stating that “Presidenta en tu Delegación” will continue to visit other communities within the municipality to strengthen direct engagement with citizens.

“Our goal is to ensure that every community feels supported and heard,” she concluded.
