Strengthening Health Measures Against Dengue in Ciudad Constitución

Intensified Actions Against Dengue
The Baja California Sur Health Department is ramping up its efforts to combat dengue in Ciudad Constitución, located in the municipality of Comondú. This initiative includes the deployment of additional personnel for larval control and the resumption of vehicular fumigation in neighborhoods that have reported the highest number of probable and confirmed cases, as indicated by epidemiological surveillance.
Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro, the head of the health department, announced that this week, the activities of thermal fogging, managed by Health Jurisdiction 1, continued. To enhance preventive coverage, new staff will visit homes to apply larvicide in containers that store water. Furthermore, fumigation using institutional vehicles will be reinstated.
“We are committed to controlling the spread of dengue and protecting our communities,” said Guluarte Castro.
Recent Efforts and Statistics
Guluarte Castro also highlighted that a recent intensive fumigation operation was conducted in Comondú and Loreto, covering over 13,000 hectares with units dispatched from La Paz. As of the end of the week, Baja California Sur has recorded 325 confirmed cases of dengue, prompting the continuation of measures aimed at reducing the presence of the mosquito that transmits the disease.
The health official explained that while fumigation targets adult mosquitoes, it does not eliminate the larvae that develop in containers with accumulated water. Therefore, she urged the public to wash and cover tanks, cisterns, and buckets, as well as to turn over or discard unused items that could become breeding grounds.
“It is crucial for the community to take proactive steps in preventing dengue,” she emphasized.
Community Engagement and Resources
In addition to these measures, the health department is coordinating with the local government to organize junk removal campaigns in neighborhoods with higher incidence rates. They are also facilitating the distribution of larvicide at the Comondú Health Jurisdiction, allowing residents to access this essential resource and bolster prevention efforts in their homes.
“We encourage everyone to keep their homes free of breeding sites and to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever and pain in the eyes, head, or abdomen,” Guluarte Castro advised, stressing the importance of timely professional evaluation in the event of a potential dengue infection.
As the situation develops, the health department remains vigilant and committed to safeguarding the health of the community. The proactive measures being implemented are vital in curbing the spread of dengue and ensuring the well-being of residents in Ciudad Constitución and beyond.
