State Government Boosts UABCS with Investment for Higher Education Expansion

In a recent press conference, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío highlighted the state government's ongoing commitment to education in Baja California Sur. Over the past five years, the administration has taken concrete actions to support the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur (UABCS), aiming to enhance access to higher education across all five municipalities. This initiative includes significant investments in infrastructure and university equipment.

"During the previous administration, 150 million pesos were invested in the institution, while over 480 million pesos have been allocated in the current government."

The governor emphasized that this financial commitment is part of the broader goals of the Fourth Transformation, which seeks to improve education and the overall well-being of the population. He reiterated the state's dedication to addressing the needs of the university community, ensuring that students have the resources necessary for their academic success.

Expansion of Educational Opportunities

Accompanied by UABCS rector Dante Arturo Salgado González, Castro Cosío discussed the positive developments within the university. The rector acknowledged the government's support and pointed out that campuses in Guerrero Negro, Loreto, Ciudad Insurgentes, and Los Cabos provide local options for students to pursue higher education without the need to travel outside their municipalities or the state.

"The increase in enrollment from 7,954 students in 2021 to 9,978 in 2026 represents a growth of 25.45 percent."

This remarkable increase in student enrollment reflects the growing demand for higher education in the region. Additionally, the number of educational programs offered has expanded from 50 to 63 during the same period, further enhancing the academic landscape of Baja California Sur.

Investment in Infrastructure

The governor also detailed the distribution of investments across various university campuses in the state. The allocation of funds has been significant, with 284.3 million pesos directed to La Paz, 114.5 million pesos to Los Cabos, 76.5 million pesos to Ciudad Insurgentes, 7.1 million pesos to Loreto, and 2.2 million pesos to Guerrero Negro. This strategic investment aims to improve facilities and resources, ensuring that students have access to modern educational environments.

"Maintaining accessible and quality public education is a permanent task, and we will continue to work so that young people have greater opportunities for professional training in Baja California Sur."
