Significant Support for La Paz: Mayor Acknowledges President Sheinbaum's Contributions

Acknowledging Federal Support

Amor Fenech Montaño, the current mayor of La Paz, has publicly recognized the critical support provided by President Claudia Sheinbaum during the initial two years of her federal administration. This acknowledgment comes in the context of Sheinbaum's multiple visits to the capital of Baja California Sur, where she has announced and supervised various projects aimed at addressing the pressing needs of the local population.

During the Second Government Report, Fenech highlighted that President Sheinbaum has visited La Paz at least three times, a notable achievement compared to previous federal administrations. Each visit has been marked by the announcement of significant works, programs, and projects designed to enhance the living conditions of families in La Paz and throughout Baja California Sur.

"Since the beginning of her administration, President Claudia Sheinbaum has shown the sensitivity to listen to the projects we were promoting from the City Council, and she made them part of a broader strategy to guarantee the human right to water,"

expressed Amor Fenech.

Key Infrastructure Projects

One of the standout projects that Fenech mentioned is the incorporation of the “El Novillo” dam into the National Water Plan. This strategic initiative, currently under construction, represents a federal investment of 2.4 billion pesos, aimed at benefiting over 250,000 residents of La Paz. The project also includes a 15-kilometer aqueduct and a water treatment plant, which are crucial for ensuring a reliable water supply in the region.

Fenech emphasized the importance of this project in addressing the water supply challenges faced by the municipality. The collaboration between local and federal governments has been pivotal in moving these initiatives forward, showcasing the potential for impactful change when different levels of government work together.

Transforming Mobility and Housing

In addition to water supply improvements, Fenech highlighted the federal government's commitment to transforming mobility in La Paz through the enhancement of the Tiburón Urbano transport system. This initiative, developed by the La Paz City Council, aims to provide a modern, safe, and accessible transportation service. The project includes the acquisition of 30 new units, along with funding for technology improvements in fare collection and safety measures.

Furthermore, Fenech addressed the housing crisis in Baja California Sur, mentioning the National Housing Program for Well-Being. This program is set to construct 37,500 new homes in the region and regularize 50,000 property deeds, which is essential for providing residents with secure housing and property rights.

"In these two years, we have seen that when there is coordination among the three levels of government, projects can turn into works that truly transform people's lives. From La Paz, we recognize the support of our President and her willingness to address the municipality's needs,"

Fenech stated.

The mayor concluded by reaffirming the municipal administration's commitment to continue working closely with both the federal and state governments. The goal is to consolidate projects that advance water supply, mobility, housing, infrastructure, and social well-being, ensuring that the results of this collaboration translate into tangible benefits for the families of Baja California Sur.
