The South Californian valley is turning red—not from the sunset, but from the resounding success of the 2026 strawberry season. Baja California Sur has surpassed the impressive figure of 3,900 tons produced, establishing itself as a key player in the berry industry in northwestern Mexico. This production volume represents not only a logistical and agricultural achievement but also a vital economic injection for hundreds of families who depend directly on labor in the fields of Comondú and the northern part of the state.

The quality of the South Californian strawberry has reached standards of excellence that allow it to compete in the most demanding markets, both nationally and internationally. Thanks to the combination of privileged climates, efficient water use, and protected cultivation techniques, the harvested fruit stands out for its firmness, sweetness, and intense color. A large part of this production is destined for tables in the United States and Canada, translating the effort of our laborers into foreign exchange and growth for the region.

This agricultural success is no coincidence. It has required meticulous planning and the arrival of seasonal workers (such as those recently recruited from other states) who, alongside local talent, have achieved this milestone. Packing and refrigeration infrastructure in areas like Ciudad Constitución has been fundamental to maintaining product freshness from the furrow to the final consumer. In 2026, the strawberry is confirmed as one of the star products diversifying our economy beyond tourism.

The challenge for the next cycle will be to maintain this growth rate without neglecting the sustainability of the aquifers. Local producers are increasingly betting on technification and environmental care, understanding that the future of the South Californian countryside depends on balance with nature. For now, we celebrate this "sweet" triumph that positions BCS as a leading, hardworking, and highly productive state. Congratulations to everyone who made this great harvest possible!
