Promoting Safety Among Youth: The 'My Neighborhood Without Violence' Fair

A Step Towards Safer Communities
In an effort to enhance community safety and foster a sense of camaraderie among youth, the State Center for Crime Prevention with Citizen Participation, under the Ministry of Public Security of Baja California Sur, organized the 'My Neighborhood Without Violence' fair. This event took place at the Technological Industrial and Services High School number 62 (CBTIS) in La Paz, as reported by its director, Eréndira Cárdenas Castro.
The fair aimed to provide students with essential information about available services and support options in case of risk situations. By doing so, it seeks to create safer school environments and strengthen the bond between institutions and the student community.
"These events allow us to know the services offered by various institutions and the options for assistance available in case of a risk situation,"
said Cárdenas Castro.
Engaging Local Institutions
During the fair, students received guidance and information from several key institutions, including the Sudcalifornian Institute for Women, the State System for Comprehensive Family Development, the Sudcalifornian Institute of Sports, the Ministry of Health, Crime Prevention and Civic Justice, the Sudcalifornian Institute for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, the Sudcalifornian Institute of Culture, and the State Commission of Human Rights.
Additionally, the State Preventive Police participated through their Social Proximity units, Victim Assistance for Gender Violence, and Cyber Police, along with federal, state, and municipal agencies. These organizations provided valuable insights on violence prevention, digital safety, and how to respond to risk situations.
"The construction of safe communities requires the joint participation of authorities, families, teachers, and students," emphasized Cárdenas Castro. "We will continue to promote actions that provide tools for making responsible decisions, strengthening coexistence, and building violence-free environments."
Building a Culture of Safety
The fair not only served as an informative platform but also as a means to engage students in discussions about safety and community involvement. By connecting youth with local resources, the initiative aims to empower them to take an active role in their safety and the safety of their peers.
The presence of various institutions at the event highlights the collaborative effort required to address issues of violence and insecurity in schools. It is essential for students to understand that they are not alone and that support is readily available.
"We are committed to creating a culture of safety and prevention among our youth," stated a representative from the Sudcalifornian Institute of Women. "Events like this are crucial in providing the necessary tools and information to help them navigate potential risks."
The 'My Neighborhood Without Violence' fair is a significant step towards fostering a safer community for students in La Paz. By equipping them with knowledge and resources, the initiative not only addresses immediate concerns but also lays the groundwork for a more secure future for the youth of Baja California Sur.
