Overview of the National Congress
The honorary president of the State DIF (SEDIF), Patricia López Navarro, is participating in the National Congress “Live Healthy, Live Happy,” taking place from August 26 to 28 in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. This significant event is led by key figures including the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, the Governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, and the head of the National DIF (SNDIF), María del Rocío García Pérez. Representatives from all 32 federal entities are also in attendance, highlighting the nationwide commitment to child health and well-being.
Objectives of the Congress
The primary aim of the congress is to strengthen the coordination between education and health sectors. It seeks to promote preventive actions against addictions, address mental health issues, and encourage healthy eating habits among children. This initiative is part of the National Strategy “Live Healthy, Live Happy,” which has already conducted health assessments for 10.8 million primary school children across the country.
“This strategy represents a national action oriented towards the well-being of children and reflects the commitment of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to the health and integral development of this population sector,” said López Navarro.
In addition to health assessments, 738 health promoters have been integrated into brigades deployed in various entities, facilitated through training and inter-institutional coordination processes. This approach aims to ensure that children receive the necessary support for a healthier lifestyle.
Impact on Child Health
The congress is not only a platform for discussion but also a catalyst for action. By fostering collaboration between educational and health institutions, it aims to create a more holistic approach to child welfare. The emphasis on preventing addictions and promoting mental health is particularly crucial in today’s context, where children face numerous challenges.
“We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to the resources they need to thrive,” emphasized López Navarro during her speech at the congress.
The initiative has garnered attention for its comprehensive strategy, which includes not just health checks but also educational programs that instill healthy habits from a young age. This proactive approach is essential in combating the rising concerns related to childhood obesity and mental health issues.
As the congress progresses, it is expected that more concrete plans will emerge, focusing on sustainable practices that can be implemented at local levels. The collaboration among various stakeholders is vital to ensure that the benefits of this initiative reach every child in Mexico.
The National Congress “Live Healthy, Live Happy” represents a significant step towards a healthier future for children in Mexico, highlighting the importance of integrated efforts in education and health sectors. The outcomes of this event will likely influence policies and programs aimed at improving the quality of life for children across the nation.
