Intensive Cleaning Efforts

In anticipation of the upcoming Día de Muertos celebrations, the La Paz City Council is undertaking extensive cleaning and maintenance efforts at the municipal cemeteries. This initiative, led by the General Directorate of Municipal Public Services, aims to ensure that these sacred spaces are well-prepared to welcome families during this significant time of remembrance.

Carlos Núñez Geraldo, the director of the mentioned department, reported that the cleaning operations began in October at the Los San Juanes cemetery. Approximately 100 temporary workers are engaged in cleaning, pruning, and weeding activities both inside the cemetery and in surrounding areas, including pathways, entrances, and exits.

"These actions are part of the preparation of the municipal cemeteries for the influx of visitors who may arrive during the Día de Muertos celebrations, when families come to these spaces to remember and honor their loved ones."

The cleaning efforts at Los San Juanes are expected to last more than 20 days, with intensive work scheduled from Thursday to Saturday. Operational crews will be involved in these efforts, followed by personnel equipped with heavy machinery to remove waste and vegetation cleared during the maintenance work.

Sequential Maintenance Across Cemeteries

Once the work at Los San Juanes is completed, the cleaning crews will move on to the Jardines del Recuerdo cemetery and subsequently to Perlas del Paraíso. This phased approach is designed to progressively address the various municipal cemeteries, ensuring that all are ready for the expected visitors during the celebrations.

"We are committed to maintaining these spaces in a way that honors the traditions and memories of those who have passed, while also providing a safe environment for families to gather."

The preparations come at a time when the community is increasingly focused on preserving cultural traditions. The Día de Muertos is a deeply rooted celebration in Mexican culture, where families gather to honor their deceased relatives with offerings, decorations, and visits to cemeteries.

A Call for Caution

Núñez Geraldo also urged the community to exercise caution while navigating the areas surrounding the cemeteries during this period. The presence of workers, vehicles, and machinery performing maintenance tasks necessitates increased awareness and care from the public.

"We ask citizens to transit with caution in the vicinity of the cemeteries during this period, due to the presence of personnel, vehicles, and machinery that will be conducting maintenance work."

As the Día de Muertos approaches, the La Paz City Council's efforts reflect a commitment to preserving the sanctity of these spaces while ensuring they are accessible and welcoming for all who wish to pay their respects. The community's engagement in these preparations highlights the importance of tradition and remembrance in the cultural fabric of La Paz.

The ongoing maintenance and cleaning activities are not only a logistical necessity but also a testament to the city's dedication to honoring its heritage and the memories of those who have passed on.
