New Preventive Strategy Against Cattle Pests in BCS

Introduction to the Strategic Plan

In a proactive move to safeguard the livestock industry, the Secretary of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Agricultural Development (SEPADA) has unveiled a comprehensive Strategic Plan aimed at preventing the introduction of the Cattle Borer Worm in Baja California Sur (BCS). This initiative comes in response to recent detections of the pest in neighboring Sonora, highlighting the need for vigilance and preventive measures in the region.

The announcement was made during a meeting with the presidents of the State Committees on plant, animal, and aquaculture health. These committees will play a crucial role in implementing the actions outlined in the plan to prevent the entry of this harmful pest.

Key Components of the Plan

The strategic plan consists of three main lines of defense designed to protect the cattle population in BCS. The first line focuses on controlling the movement of livestock and related products. This includes establishing requirements for the transportation of cattle and conducting thorough inspections of livestock products entering the state.
