New Linear Park Delivered in La Rinconada as Preventive Cleanup Operations Begin in La Paz

The redesign of public spaces in Baja California Sur is taking a firm step forward this March 2026. The La Paz City Council officially delivered the new Linear Park in the La Rinconada neighborhood, a project that not only reclaims a previously abandoned area but serves as an ecological barrier for the community. Alongside this inauguration, the Public Services Directorate launched intensive preventive cleanup operations in the city's canals and streams. This dual strategy aims to provide dignified recreational areas while preparing the capital's stormwater infrastructure for the upcoming rain and hurricane season.

From urban hydrology and green infrastructure planning perspectives, the redesign of medians and stream banks as linear parks plays a vital role in flood mitigation. The peak surface runoff discharge during a storm is traditionally calculated using the Rational Method.

In 2026, authorities have been emphatic: physical infrastructure is useless without citizen co-responsibility. The preventive cleanup operations that began in La Rinconada will extend to the more than 30 dangerous stream crossings in La Paz. The main challenge remains the illegal dumping of large-volume trash (like tires and appliances) in the riverbeds, which acts as a deadly dam during summer storms.

In conclusion, La Rinconada residents are recommended to take ownership of their new park through constant use and by reporting vandalism. The general public is urged not to use stream beds as dumpsites. Water always has a memory and will reclaim its course. For the remainder of the spring, cleanup brigades are expected to cover 100% of the city's southern zone.
