Description

Introduction to the Itinerant Violet Tables

In a significant step towards addressing violence against women, the city of La Paz has launched the Itinerant Violet Tables. This initiative, coordinated by the La Paz City Council, the Municipal Institute for Women, and various justice and security institutions, aims to prevent, sanction, and eradicate violence against women, girls, and adolescents. The first social and legal assistance day took place in the La Pasión neighborhood, an area identified as a priority due to high incidents of violence and low reporting rates.

The initiative seeks to break down barriers to justice by bringing personalized support directly to vulnerable sectors of the municipality. The program involves active participation from the Civic Justice Directorate, the Child and Adolescent Prosecutor's Office, the Subprosecutor's Office for Crimes Against Sexual Freedom and the Family, along with agents from the Public Ministry and the State Preventive Police’s Violet Units.

Services Offered at the Violet Tables

At these comprehensive modules, women can receive free legal advice on matters such as child support, custody, divorce, and loss of parental rights. Additionally, social workers provide support and connect individuals to the Bolsa Violeta, a program aimed at facilitating employment opportunities for women. Christa González Robinson, the head of the initiative, emphasized the importance of making these services accessible to the community:

"What we want is to encourage women to know that there are institutions that support them, that asking for help is their right, and that they can live a happy life."

This outreach is crucial in a city where many women may feel isolated or unaware of their rights and the resources available to them. The initiative aims to empower women by providing them with the necessary tools and information to seek help and assert their rights.

Ensuring Legal Support and Community Engagement

To ensure the legal processing of cases requiring criminal prosecution, the Public Ministry representatives are accompanied by specialists trained in crisis management. During the inaugural event, Public Ministry agent Fabiola Mesa Vareño explained the protocol for receiving reports of domestic violence or gender crimes at the municipal modules:

"We collect reports directly at these modules, and we have psychologists who assist in the reception to provide support to the victims."

The Itinerant Violet Tables will be set up every Monday at different locations throughout the capital, utilizing a heat map system and georeferencing to identify risk areas in Baja California Sur. Authorities encourage the public to check the official Facebook page of the La Paz Directorate of Crime Prevention and Civic Justice, where upcoming locations will be announced in advance.

The ongoing monitoring of safety programs, gender equity, and community support in municipalities like La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé will continue to be reported through local news outlets and information channels. This initiative represents a proactive approach to tackling the pressing issue of violence against women in the region, fostering a safer environment for all residents.
