The Government of Baja California Sur, through the Secretariat of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Agricultural Development (SEPADA), is preparing for the third edition of the Date Festival in Mulegé. This much-anticipated event is set to take place on Saturday, September 19, starting at 9:00 AM in the main square of the community. The festival aims to highlight the region's unique agricultural product, the date, while fostering local economic activity.

José Alfredo Bermúdez Beltrán, head of SEPADA, announced that over 40 local producers will participate, showcasing their date-based products and dishes. The festival not only serves as a platform for these producers but also aims to promote Mulegé as a vibrant cultural and gastronomic destination.

"This celebration will promote the date as an emblematic product of the area, combining cultural, gastronomic, and tourist activities," said Bermúdez Beltrán. "It will also create spaces for the exhibition and commercialization of local products."

Activities for All Ages

The Date Festival promises a day filled with diverse activities for families and visitors of all ages. Attendees can look forward to gastronomic samples, a contest for the best date bread, traditional dances, a horseback parade, an artistic program, and the crowning of the festival queen. These activities are designed to engage the community and celebrate the rich traditions of Baja California Sur.

Bermúdez Beltrán emphasized the importance of such events in promoting local culture and community bonding. He stated,

"These types of gatherings contribute to the development of the primary sector while preserving traditions, strengthening regional identity, and fostering family togetherness among the people of Baja California Sur."

Economic and Cultural Impact

The Date Festival is more than just a celebration; it is a strategic initiative aimed at boosting the local economy. By attracting visitors and promoting local products, the festival plays a crucial role in enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers and artisans. The event also serves as a reminder of the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and the preservation of local heritage.

As Mulegé prepares for this year's festival, the excitement is palpable among the community members and local producers. The event not only showcases the culinary delights of the region but also reinforces the social fabric of the community, bringing together families and visitors in a festive atmosphere.
