Major Investments by API to Enhance Community Welfare in BCS

Strengthening Financial Foundations
The Governor of Baja California Sur, Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, has praised the performance of the Integral Port Administration of Baja California Sur (API-BCS). He highlighted the financial strengthening of the organization, improvements to its facilities, and the generation of projects that benefit local communities. During a recent conference, the API's General Director, Narciso Agúndez Gómez, revealed that port activity revenues surged by 61.9% from 2021 to 2025, increasing from 269 million pesos to 435 million pesos.
"This growth resulted from enhancements in collection processes, supervision, and commercial agreements."
These financial gains are being channeled into three main areas: strengthening the organization, modernizing infrastructure, and executing social responsibility projects. This strategic focus aims to ensure that the API can effectively contribute to the development of the region.
Key Infrastructure Projects
Agúndez Gómez disclosed that a total of 182.23 million pesos has been allocated to four phases and 38 additional actions aimed at modernizing the Port of Pichilingue. Additionally, 28.3 million pesos have been earmarked for dredging work, which is essential for maintaining navigable waterways.
Among the notable social responsibility initiatives is the rehabilitation of the Loreto port's dock and boardwalk, which received an investment of 14.5 million pesos. Furthermore, the construction of the “La Playita” boatyard for fishermen in Santa Rosalía has been allocated 61 million pesos.
"The rehabilitation of these facilities is crucial for supporting our local fishermen and enhancing tourism in the area."
The reconstruction of the tourist dock in Puerto San Carlos, which cost 20.4 million pesos, was executed in collaboration with FONMAR. An impressive 174 million pesos is also being directed towards coastal boardwalk projects in La Paz, which are expected to significantly enhance the area's appeal.
Future Developments and Community Impact
Looking ahead, the API has ambitious plans for 2027, including a fifth phase of modernization for the Port of Pichilingue. This will be complemented by rehabilitation and maintenance projects for boulevards in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Ongoing work at El Coromuel, the “Inclusive Beach,” and the coastal boardwalk spanning 9.15 kilometers in La Paz will continue, alongside the completion of the inclusive park “Todos a Bordo.”
"The results achieved by API-BCS underscore our commitment to community welfare and infrastructure development."
Governor Castro emphasized that the strengthening of the API allows for continuous progress in projects that directly benefit the communities of Baja California Sur. With these investments, the government aims to foster a more vibrant and sustainable environment for its residents, enhancing both the economy and quality of life in the region. The API's efforts are not only transforming port facilities but also creating lasting impacts on local communities through improved infrastructure and social initiatives.
