Magical Towns Boost Tourism and Identity in Baja California Sur

Celebrating Cultural Heritage
On October 5th, Mexico celebrates the National Day of Magical Towns, a significant occasion that highlights the unique cultural and historical contributions of various towns across the country. In Baja California Sur, the Secretary of Tourism and Economy, Maribel Collins Sánchez, emphasized the importance of the towns of Todos Santos, Loreto, and Santa Rosalía as vital representatives of the state's rich cultural, historical, and natural wealth. These towns not only enhance the region's identity but also play a crucial role in diversifying tourism activities.
"In Baja California Sur, we have three Magical Towns that showcase different expressions of our identity: Todos Santos, with its artistic, cultural, and gastronomic vocation; Loreto, with its invaluable historical and missionary legacy, accompanied by extraordinary natural beauties; and Santa Rosalía, with a unique history and architecture that reflect an important part of our state's heritage,"
she stated.
Economic Opportunities and Community Benefits
The designation of these towns as Magical Towns by the Mexican government's Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) allows for the promotion of their attractions, creating opportunities for service providers, artisans, producers, merchants, and families within these communities. This initiative aims to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism reach those who live and work in these areas, thus fostering community development and sustainability.
Collins Sánchez pointed out the ongoing efforts to promote these destinations on both national and international stages. She announced that Todos Santos, Loreto, and Santa Rosalía will participate in the upcoming Tianguis Turístico de Pueblos Mágicos 2026, scheduled to take place from November 26 to 29 in Tampico, Tamaulipas. This event will serve as a platform to showcase the unique offerings of these towns to a broader audience.
"Tourism must translate into well-being for communities. Therefore, we will continue to work to preserve the essence of the Magical Towns and ensure that the economic benefits reach those who live and work in these localities,"
she emphasized.
Future Prospects for Tourism in Baja California Sur
The promotion of Magical Towns aligns with the broader strategy of enhancing tourism in Baja California Sur. By highlighting the distinct characteristics of each town, the government aims to attract more visitors and stimulate local economies. Todos Santos is known for its vibrant arts scene and culinary delights, while Loreto offers a glimpse into the region's rich history and natural beauty. Santa Rosalía, with its unique architectural style, draws attention to the cultural diversity present in the state.
As the tourism sector continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, initiatives like these are crucial for revitalizing local economies and preserving cultural heritage. The commitment of the state government to support these towns reflects a recognition of their potential as key players in the tourism landscape of Baja California Sur.
In conclusion, the celebration of the National Day of Magical Towns serves as a reminder of the importance of cultural identity and economic sustainability in the tourism sector. The ongoing efforts to promote Todos Santos, Loreto, and Santa Rosalía will not only enhance their visibility but also contribute to the overall development of Baja California Sur as a premier tourist destination.
