Los Cabos to Host Second International Bird Festival in 2026

A Celebration of Biodiversity
Los Cabos, Baja California Sur – Under the motto “Birds unite us between the sea and the mountains,” authorities from all levels of government unveiled the program for the Second International Bird Festival of Los Cabos, scheduled to take place from October 8 to 10. This festival aims to highlight the region's rich avian diversity, which includes approximately 340 registered bird species, reinforcing Los Cabos as a key biodiversity hotspot.
The event will feature a variety of activities, including workshops, presentations, and public events designed to engage both locals and visitors. Jorge Armando López Espinoza, the General Director of Ecology and Environment for the XV City Council of Los Cabos, emphasized the importance of this festival in promoting environmental education and conservation efforts.
“This second edition will bring together national and international experts to raise awareness about the role of birds as bioindicators of environmental health and to promote a low-impact nature tourism model.”
Collaborative Efforts for Conservation
The festival is a collaborative effort involving government, academia, private sector, civil organizations, and the community. José Emer García de la Puente Orozco, the President of the Organizing Committee and a researcher at UABCS, highlighted the significance of this partnership in ensuring the festival's success.
“The festival is the result of the combined efforts of various stakeholders who are committed to promoting conservation and sustainable tourism in our region.”
Ana Gabriela Navarro González, the Municipal Director of Tourism, also spoke about the festival's potential to enhance the municipality's tourism strategy. She noted that it positions Los Cabos as a leading destination for responsible birdwatching, benefiting local communities directly.

The presentation of the festival was attended by notable figures, including Lilzi Orci Fregoso, Executive President of the Association of Hotels of Los Cabos, María Jossue Navarro Sánchez, Director of the Protected Natural Area of CONANP, and María Elena Martínez Delgado, General Director of Conservation of the Mexican Insular Territory A.C. Their presence underscores the collaborative spirit of the event and the shared commitment to conservation.
