Emergency Response

Ongoing Preventive Operations

In light of the forecast predicting significant rainfall due to Hurricane Rachel, the XV City Council of Los Cabos has activated a comprehensive preventive operation aimed at safeguarding the local population. Francisco Cota Márquez, the municipal director of Civil Protection and Risk Management, announced that rainfall accumulations of 70 to 75 millimeters are expected in various areas of the municipality, linked to the hurricane's trajectory in the Pacific Ocean.

"We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors during this weather event,"

Cota Márquez stated.

The proactive measures include the establishment of four temporary shelters, which were opened the previous day to provide refuge for those in need. So far, these shelters have accommodated 25 individuals, with 20 located in Cabo San Lucas and 5 in San José del Cabo. This operation is being carried out in coordination with authorities from all levels of government, ensuring a unified response to the impending storm.

Safety Measures and Public Awareness

As part of the preventive actions, the beaches in the municipality have been closed, marked with a black flag indicating unsafe conditions for marine activities. Emergency personnel have also responded to reports of individuals trapped in riverbeds, highlighting the immediate dangers posed by rising water levels.

"We urge the public to avoid crossing streams, fords, or areas with flowing water, as their levels and strength can increase suddenly,"

Cota Márquez emphasized.

The Civil Protection agency has reiterated the importance of public awareness during this critical time. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through the official channels of the Los Cabos City Council and to refrain from any travel or activities that may pose risks while the storm persists.

Community Response and Preparedness

The community's response to the emergency measures has been largely positive, with many residents expressing gratitude for the swift actions taken by local authorities. The establishment of shelters has provided peace of mind for those who may be vulnerable during the storm. Local businesses and organizations have also stepped up, offering support and resources to those affected by the weather conditions.

"It’s reassuring to see our community come together in times of crisis. We must all look out for one another,"

said a local business owner.

As Hurricane Rachel approaches, the city remains vigilant, monitoring the situation closely and adapting its response as necessary. The collaboration between municipal, state, and federal authorities exemplifies the commitment to public safety and disaster preparedness in the region.

In conclusion, the Los Cabos City Council is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents during this challenging time. As the storm progresses, the community is encouraged to remain alert and follow official guidance to navigate the potential impacts of Hurricane Rachel.
