The Los Cabos City Council has officially reaffirmed its support for the upcoming Bisbee’s Black & Blue Fishing Tournament, a hallmark event in the region's sporting calendar. Scheduled to take place from October 19 to 24, 2026, this tournament has a rich history spanning 46 years and is recognized as one of the most significant fishing competitions globally. The event not only attracts local participants but also international anglers, thereby enhancing the region's profile as a premier fishing destination.

During a press conference, key officials from the municipal government, including Juan Javier García Davis, the director of Fishing and Aquaculture, and Ana Gabriela Navarro González, the director of Tourism, emphasized the importance of this tournament for both the local economy and the fishing community. García Davis stated,

"We are proud to support an event that has become synonymous with Los Cabos and showcases our commitment to sustainable fishing practices."

Engaging the Community and Promoting Sustainability

The tournament will kick off with team registrations on October 19, followed by fishing days from October 21 to 23, culminating in an awards ceremony on October 24. This structure not only provides a competitive platform for anglers but also fosters community engagement and promotes responsible fishing practices. The involvement of local youth in fishing clinics organized by the Bisbee’s Group further highlights the event's commitment to environmental awareness and education.

García Davis acknowledged the efforts of Clicerio Mercado Hernández, the general coordinator of the Bisbee’s tournaments, for his role in promoting six tournaments across Baja California Sur, along with approximately 12 children's fishing clinics. He remarked,

"These initiatives are crucial for instilling a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness in our younger generations."

A Global Showcase for Los Cabos

Navarro González also underscored the tournament's significance as a major tourist attraction, stating,

"The Bisbee’s Black & Blue is not just a fishing tournament; it is a vital part of our identity and tradition in Los Cabos. It serves as a high-impact promotional platform for tourism, drawing participants from countries such as Costa Rica and Japan."

The Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournament is expected to attract a diverse group of participants and spectators, further solidifying Los Cabos' reputation as the world capital of sport fishing. Mercado Hernández expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the City Council, sponsors, and the local community, emphasizing the collective effort required to maintain this prestigious tradition. He concluded,
