Description

A Historic Celebration

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Loreto and the 56th anniversary of the Magna Assembly of Political Integration of Baja California Sur, a solemn public session was held this Sunday. During this event, Loreto was declared a temporary seat of the state's powers, with the participation of the Secretary General of Government, José Saúl González Núñez, representing Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the historical struggles faced by the people of Baja California Sur. In his speech, González Núñez reflected on the pivotal events of October 11, 1970, when citizens gathered in Plaza Salvatierra to demand the right to have a civil governor, one who was either a native or had deep roots in the region, at a time when Baja California Sur was still a federal territory.

"This movement was a testament to the civic engagement of the people in defending their political rights and seeking greater autonomy for our region,"

he stated, emphasizing the importance of understanding these historical contexts.

Reflecting on Civic Responsibility

González Núñez highlighted that recognizing such milestones allows for a deeper reflection on the origins of institutions and the responsibilities that come with exercising authority. He noted that the history of civic movements in Baja California Sur is not just a past event but a continuous journey towards political maturity and self-governance.

"Knowing our history is crucial in understanding the evolution of our political landscape and the rights we hold today,"

he remarked, urging citizens to remain engaged in the democratic process.

The session was attended by notable figures, including Claudia Jeanette Cota Peña, the President of the Superior Court of Justice, representing the Judicial Branch; local deputies; the Mayor of Loreto, Paz del Alma Ochoa Amador; as well as various civil and military authorities. Their presence underscored the collective acknowledgment of the importance of civic participation in shaping the political framework of Baja California Sur.

Honoring Historical Contributions

This commemoration not only celebrates the anniversary of Loreto but also serves to honor those who contributed to the political transformation of Baja California Sur. González Núñez emphasized the need to keep the historical memory alive, recognizing the efforts of those who fought for the rights and autonomy of the region.

"This celebration is a tribute to all who have played a role in our political evolution and a reminder of the ongoing responsibility we have to uphold these values,"

he concluded, reinforcing the idea that civic engagement is essential for the health of democracy.

As Loreto continues to grow and evolve, the lessons from its past remain vital for future generations. The event served as a powerful reminder of the strength of community action and the importance of political awareness in shaping a better future for Baja California Sur.
