La Paz Prepares for School Return with Traffic Safety Operations

Ensuring Safety for Students and Families

As the new school year approaches, the La Paz City Council is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of students returning to classes. Starting Monday, August 31, the city will implement the Back to School Operation, aimed at preventing accidents and facilitating traffic flow during peak hours around educational institutions. This initiative comes as a response to the increased vehicular concentration expected during school drop-off and pick-up times.

The Director General of Traffic Safety and Transportation, Francisco Ramírez, announced that personnel will be deployed at various locations throughout the municipality, particularly during the busiest times at schools. The operation will include the establishment of school safety carousels at different educational facilities, where staff will provide guidance to parents and guardians to help avoid situations that could lead to congestion or endanger pedestrians and students.

"We invite everyone to take preventive measures such as wearing seat belts, leaving home with enough time, and avoiding driving hastily. Respect speed limits and traffic signs, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and yield to pedestrians,"

Ramírez urged.

Key Guidelines for Parents and Drivers

The city has outlined several important guidelines for parents and drivers to follow during the school year. Among the primary recommendations is to avoid double parking, not obstructing sidewalks, and respecting designated areas for dropping off and picking up children. Additionally, parents are advised to keep backpacks inside the vehicle rather than in the trunk to ensure safety and convenience.

Special attention will be given to the Forjadores Boulevard and the new bypass, particularly from the junction with the road to Los Planes to the Colosio Boulevard, along the Santiago Oceguera bypass. These areas are expected to experience heightened traffic due to the influx of parents and students.

"The priority will be the safety of students, families, teachers, pedestrians, and the general public," Ramírez emphasized. "We urge everyone to drive cautiously and follow the instructions of the personnel in charge of traffic devices."

Community Involvement and Awareness

The Back to School Operation not only focuses on traffic management but also emphasizes community involvement and awareness. The city encourages parents to discuss safety measures with their children, ensuring that students are aware of the importance of following traffic rules and being vigilant while commuting to and from school.

In addition to the operational measures, the city plans to conduct awareness campaigns to further educate the community on road safety. These campaigns will highlight the significance of responsible driving, especially during school hours when children are most vulnerable.
