A Gathering of Cinematic Talent

The La Paz International Film Festival (FICLAPAZ) is gearing up for its ninth edition, scheduled to take place from November 12 to 14, 2026. This highly anticipated event will bring together filmmakers, actors, producers, students, and industry professionals from across the globe. According to Fernando Ojeda Aguilar, the Undersecretary of Tourism, the festival aims to foster a vibrant community of cinema enthusiasts.

"Baja California Sur has talent, stories, and extraordinary settings. This festival represents an opportunity to showcase that potential, generate new projects, and connect young people to the training and development of the film industry,"

expressed Ojeda Aguilar.

The festival will feature a range of free and public activities at venues including the Teatro Juárez, Universidad de Tijuana Campus La Paz, Casa Ivium, and EPI. Attendees can look forward to film screenings, workshops, conferences, industry meet-ups, a film competition, the 48-Hour Rally, and an awards ceremony.

Celebrating Local and National Talent

This year's festival has received over 140 submissions, highlighting a significant presence of filmmakers and talent from Baja California Sur. The programming will also include collaborations with Espanto Film Festival, Muestra de Cine Vagabundo, and UNIFEST, alongside representatives from Jalisco and other audiovisual professionals.

"The government of the state continues to support festivals and audiovisual productions to expand exhibition and training spaces, as well as to bring new generations closer to the film industry,"

Ojeda Aguilar added.

The festival not only serves as a platform for showcasing films but also aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and the development of new projects. It will provide opportunities for local filmmakers to connect with national and international guests, enhancing the growth of the regional film industry.

Recognizing Excellence in Film

As part of this year's festivities, the festival will honor actors Silverio Palacios and Armando Hernández with the Mérito Balandra award, recognizing their contributions to the film industry. This acknowledgment underscores the festival's commitment to celebrating excellence in cinema and encouraging emerging talent.

"These activities contribute to diversifying the cultural and tourist offerings and favor the development of the audiovisual sector in Baja California Sur,"

concluded Ojeda Aguilar.

The La Paz International Film Festival is poised to be a significant event for the local community and the broader film industry, providing a unique opportunity to engage with the art of cinema. With its diverse programming and emphasis on collaboration, the festival is set to inspire creativity and foster connections among filmmakers and audiences alike.
