La Paz Cleans Up: Nearly 2,500 Tons of Waste Removed in One Week

A Major Clean-Up Effort

In a remarkable initiative, the General Directorate of Sustainability and Waste Management of the La Paz City Council reported the collection of nearly 2,500 tons of waste from various neighborhoods and commercial areas during the week of August 24 to 30. This effort is part of ongoing actions aimed at keeping public spaces clean and ensuring the continuity of waste collection services.

The head of the Collection Department, Elizabeth Núñez Castro, shared insights on the operation, stating that an average of 24 collection trucks were in service daily. These trucks covered the 144 routes established across the three sectors of the city.

"We are committed to maintaining a clean environment for our residents, and this week’s results reflect our dedication to that goal,"

Núñez Castro emphasized.

Breakdown of Collected Waste

Out of the total waste collected, over 2,400 tons were household waste, while more than 46 tons were removed from containers located in residential areas such as Pedregal del Cortés, Valle del Mezquite, Banobras, Solidaridad, and Misioneros. Additionally, 26.58 tons of waste were transported in flatbed trucks to the landfill, as part of complementary cleaning efforts and addressing specific problem areas.

This extensive clean-up operation not only highlights the city's commitment to waste management but also showcases the importance of community involvement. During the week, the city received 240 reports through the La Paz App, specifically under the option “Garbage truck did not pass,” which were promptly addressed by the department staff.

"The participation of the citizens is fundamental in our efforts. We appreciate their reports, as they help us improve our services and keep the city clean,"

Núñez Castro added.
