A Celebration of Joy and Community
The La Paz City Council, through the Carnival Committee, has officially announced the opening of registrations for the election of the King of Joy for the 2027 Carnival, themed “The Festival of the Future.” This event promises to be a vibrant celebration, and the registration process is free, remaining open until Friday, October 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
According to the official announcement, eligible candidates must be Mexican men aged between 18 and 60 years, with at least one year of residency in La Paz. To participate, candidates are required to deposit 15,000 pesos directly into the Municipal Treasury by November 6, 2026. Each vote cast will be valued at one peso, ensuring that the election process is accessible to all.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage in a traditional celebration that highlights our culture and spirit,"
said a representative from the Carnival Committee.
Requirements and Responsibilities
Candidates must embody the spirit of joy and festivity, demonstrating good character and recognized honorability. They are also required to form a working committee that includes a President, a Treasurer, and a Vocal member. Furthermore, candidates must sign the participation regulations to ensure a fair and organized election process.
To complete their registration, candidates must submit several documents, including a copy of their official identification (INE), a medical certificate confirming good health, a birth certificate, and proof of residence. It is important to note that individuals who have participated in previous editions of the carnival are not eligible to register again.
"We are looking for individuals who can truly represent the joy of our festival and engage with the community throughout their reign,"
emphasized the Carnival Committee.
The Titles and Their Significance
The titles awarded in this competition include King of Joy, Prince of the Carnival, and Duke of Joy for the top three contestants. The winner will be expected to fulfill the commitments associated with their role, as outlined in a work plan developed in collaboration with the organizing committee. This includes participating in parades and wearing costumes designated by the committee.
The event not only serves as a platform for celebrating local culture but also fosters community spirit and engagement. The Carnival of La Paz is a cherished tradition that brings together residents and visitors alike, showcasing the vibrant culture of Baja California Sur.
"We invite everyone to join us in this celebration, whether as a participant or as a supporter of our local culture,"
