La Paz Authorities Assess Rain Damage Amid Ongoing Weather Challenges

In response to the heavy rains that fell this afternoon in La Paz, measuring approximately 30.6 millimeters, the acting mayor, Amor Fenech Montaño, conducted a tour of various city locations to assess the damage firsthand and coordinate preventive measures implemented by different municipal departments. The city is currently under the active operation known as Hurricane Operation 2026, which involves personnel from Civil Protection, Municipal Police, Firefighters, and other municipal areas addressing citizen reports and conducting patrols to identify potential risks to the public.

"We made it a point to go out into the streets to identify the main areas that experienced any type of incident. Here, on Manuel Pineda Street, by the boardwalk, a significant sinkhole has formed, and the Municipal Police are already placing caution tape to prevent any accidents. Tomorrow morning, we will begin to bring in machinery for cleanup, but we must remember that the forecast calls for rain throughout the week,"

stated the mayor.

Identifying Affected Areas

During the assessment, officials monitored areas where sinkholes, landslides, and water accumulation were reported, as well as roadways experiencing traffic complications. The mayor highlighted that several streets, including Riolita in the Invi-Chametla neighborhood, Salvatierra in Colina de la Cruz, and Palmira in Pedregal, showed signs of damage from the weather, with landslides and water currents complicating transit.

"The runoff may increase due to the water descending from the higher parts of the basin to the lower areas of the city, which means that some roadways may remain temporarily complicated even after the rain subsides,"

Fenech Montaño explained.

Public Safety Reminders

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, the mayor urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the rain and to exercise patience when encountering roadways with water currents, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety and the lives of individuals. Additionally, the Public Services team has begun clearing dirt and stones from the streets, while OOMSAPAS La Paz will follow up on reports related to the drinking water system once storm conditions allow for the organization of necessary response efforts.

"We are committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens during this challenging weather period. We ask everyone to stay alert and report any hazards they encounter,"

the mayor concluded.
