Waste Collection in La Paz

A Week of Intensive Cleanup

In a remarkable effort to maintain cleanliness in La Paz, the city's General Directorate of Sustainability and Waste Management reported the collection of nearly 2,500 tons of waste from various neighborhoods and commercial areas during the week of August 24 to 30. This initiative is part of ongoing actions aimed at keeping public spaces clean and ensuring the continuity of waste collection services.

Elizabeth Núñez Castro, head of the Collection Department, shared insights into the operation, stating that an average of 24 collection trucks were in service daily, covering 144 routes organized across three sectors of the city. This extensive operation underscores the city's commitment to effective waste management.

"Our goal is to ensure that La Paz remains a clean and orderly city, and the participation of our citizens is vital in achieving this,"

Núñez Castro emphasized.

Breakdown of Waste Collected

Of the total waste collected, over 2,400 tons were classified as household waste, while more than 46 tons were removed from containers located in residential complexes such as Pedregal del Cortés, Valle del Mezquite, Banobras, Solidaridad, and Misioneros. This comprehensive approach not only targets residential areas but also addresses waste accumulation in communal spaces, reflecting a holistic strategy towards waste management.

Additionally, 26.58 tons of waste were transported to the landfill in open trucks as part of supplementary cleaning efforts and targeted responses to specific areas needing attention. This multifaceted approach highlights the city's proactive measures in tackling waste issues.

"We are committed to addressing all reports and ensuring that our waste management system operates efficiently,"

Núñez Castro added.

Community Involvement and Reporting Mechanisms

The success of this waste collection initiative is also attributed to the active participation of the community. During the week, the city received 240 reports via the La Paz App, specifically through the option for reporting missed garbage pickups. These requests were promptly addressed by the waste management personnel, showcasing the importance of citizen engagement in municipal services.

"The collaboration between the government and the community is essential for maintaining a cleaner city. We appreciate the feedback and reports from our residents,"

Núñez Castro stated.

The city of La Paz continues to monitor collection routes closely and strengthen mechanisms for addressing citizen reports, promoting a collaborative effort between the government and society. This partnership is crucial for fostering a cleaner and more organized urban environment, ensuring that La Paz remains a desirable place to live and visit. As the city moves forward, the emphasis on sustainability and community involvement will play a pivotal role in shaping its waste management policies and practices.
