Rising Waves Prompt Safety Measures

In response to the climatic conditions caused by Hurricane Rachel in the Pacific Ocean, the municipal coordinator of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) in Los Cabos, Héctor Agúndez Cota, announced the preventive closure of several beaches. This decision aims to safeguard the integrity of beachgoers and visitors as the hurricane brings increased wave activity and strong currents to the region.

Agúndez Cota stated,

"Due to the weather conditions generated by Hurricane Rachel, we have implemented a preventive closure of various beaches to ensure the safety of our citizens and tourists."

Beaches Affected by the Closure

Currently, 14 beaches in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are marked with a black flag, indicating that they are closed. In San José del Cabo, the affected beaches include Palmilla, Acapulquito, Costa Azul, Las Palmas, and La Playa. Meanwhile, in Cabo San Lucas, the closed beaches are Club Cascada, Villas del Palmar, Villa La Estancia, RIU Palace, RIU Santa Fe, RIU Baja California, Las Viudas, El Chileno, and El Tule.

Agúndez Cota emphasized the importance of adhering to these restrictions, urging both locals and visitors to respect the guidelines set forth by ZOFEMAT, Civil Protection, and other relevant authorities. He noted,

"It is crucial for everyone to follow the restrictions and pay attention to the instructions from our safety personnel."

Ongoing Monitoring and Recommendations

The monitoring of Hurricane Rachel's impact is ongoing, with continuous coordination between meteorological authorities and Civil Protection. The ZOFEMAT coordinator indicated that the safety measures will remain in effect until conditions improve. He advised the public to stay alert for official communications and to avoid entering the water at closed beaches.

"We are committed to keeping the public informed and safe during this weather event. Please stay tuned for updates and avoid the closed areas."

As the storm progresses, the local government is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike. The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are prepared to adjust their strategies as needed based on the evolving weather patterns. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety during this time of uncertainty.
