A New Era for Economic Development
In a significant move for economic advancement in Baja California Sur, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío presided over the inaugural session of the Investment Promotion Committee. This gathering brought together representatives from the business, academic, and governmental sectors to discuss opportunities and projects aimed at fostering economic growth in the region. The meeting marks a pivotal step in enhancing collaboration among key stakeholders to drive investment and development.
During the session, Governor Castro emphasized the necessity of maintaining ongoing communication with investors, producers, and job creators. He stated that this dialogue is crucial for facilitating new projects that align with a vision of responsible and balanced development.
"It is essential to keep an open line of communication with those who invest, produce, and generate jobs to facilitate new projects under a responsible and balanced development vision,"
he said.
Portfolio of Opportunities
Carlos Alfonso Candelaria López, head of the Unit of Prospecting, Planning, and Evaluation at the Ministry of Economy, presented a portfolio of 29 authorized investments primarily located in La Paz and Los Cabos. These projects span various sectors, including temporary lodging services, construction, and real estate activities, providing substantial opportunities for job creation and economic stimulation.
"We have a portfolio of 29 authorized investments that will significantly contribute to job creation and economic dynamism in the region,"
Candelaria López remarked.
The focus on these sectors indicates a strategic approach to harnessing the region's tourism potential while addressing the growing demand for housing and services. The Governor's office aims to ensure that these projects are executed in a manner that respects the natural resources and aligns with the productive activities of each area.
Collaborative Efforts for Sustainable Growth
As part of the discussions, the committee agreed on the importance of coordinated efforts to improve the utilization and distribution of potable water and to tackle challenges related to electricity generation and distribution. These issues are critical for supporting the anticipated growth resulting from the new investments.
Governor Castro highlighted that the committee serves as a direct link between the public, private, and academic sectors, facilitating the attention to large, medium, and small enterprises. He noted the importance of identifying opportunities and advancing the simplification of processes to attract more investments.
"This mechanism allows us to maintain a direct link between the public, private, and academic sectors, facilitating attention to businesses of all sizes and identifying opportunities for growth,"
he explained.
The committee was established on July 10, 2025, as part of the national strategy of Plan Mexico, initiated by the Mexican government to promote public and private investment and regional development. This initiative aims to create a more conducive environment for investment, ultimately benefiting the local economy and community.
In closing, Governor Castro Cosío reaffirmed the region's capacity for continued growth, emphasizing the importance of seizing opportunities in an orderly manner while respecting natural resources and aligning with the productive activities of each region. His vision reflects a commitment to sustainable development that prioritizes both economic progress and environmental stewardship.
