Emergency Response

Deployment of Military Aid

In a proactive measure against the impending Hurricane Polo, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío visited the facilities of the Third Military Zone in La Paz to witness the deployment of the Correcaminos and Castores brigades. These units, part of the Third Combat Engineer Battalion, are heading to Los Cabos and Comondú in anticipation of the storm's potential impacts, expected to hit during the early hours of September 28.

As part of this preventive mobilization, personnel from the Mexican Army, heavy machinery, and specialized equipment are being dispatched to both regions. Governor Castro emphasized the importance of readiness, stating,

"The coordination between our armed forces and local institutions is crucial during this contingency."

Coordination and Preparedness

The governor's visit underscores the commitment of the state government to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. Castro Cosío acknowledged the efforts of the armed forces and highlighted the significance of maintaining a constant line of communication among various institutions during emergencies. He noted,

"We are prepared to respond effectively to any situation that may arise due to the hurricane."

In addition, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, the national coordinator of Civil Protection from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, is expected to arrive on Sunday. She will join the command center that will be established in Ciudad Constitución and, if necessary, in the municipality of Mulegé. This collaboration aims to enhance the response capabilities of the state in the face of natural disasters.

Resources and Community Awareness

Commander César Omar Quinn Ponce of the Third Military Zone reported that, following the DN-III-E Plan, the transfer of heavy machinery, tractor-trailers, and necessary equipment for relief efforts has commenced. This plan is designed to ensure that resources are readily available to assist communities affected by the hurricane.

Governor Castro reiterated the importance of public awareness, urging residents of Baja California Sur to stay informed through official channels and to avoid panic buying. He assured the public,

"There is a sufficient supply of food and fuel, so there is no need for alarm."

As the state braces for the storm, the coordinated efforts between military and civil authorities reflect a robust emergency response strategy aimed at safeguarding the lives and properties of the residents of Baja California Sur. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared as the situation develops.
