Support for Local Producers

Strengthening Local Industries

In a significant move to enhance the fishing and aquaculture sectors in Baja California Sur, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío has announced the allocation of 5.5 million pesos to support local producers in Comondú. This initiative aims to improve working conditions and expand the productive capacity of these vital industries. The resources and equipment provided will directly benefit ten permit holders and 43 cooperatives across various communities, including San Juanico, María Auxiliadora, and Puerto Adolfo López Mateos.

During the event, Castro Cosío emphasized the importance of these investments for the local economy. He stated,

"With these supports, we seek to ensure that producers have better tools to develop their activities and that more people benefit from them. This is an effort we undertake with responsibility and the commitment to continue expanding these actions. This is the fourth time we deliver such materials."

Direct Benefits to Local Producers

The resources delivered included four motors—three designated for commercial fishing and one for aquaculture, which came with a 17-foot boat. Additionally, 34 lots of aquaculture cultivation gear, four lots of fishing gear, and equipment for safety and value-added generation were distributed. These tools are expected to significantly enhance the productivity and safety of local fishermen and aquaculture workers.

The governor highlighted the broader impact of this initiative, noting that in the current year alone, 268 requests from producers across La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé have been addressed, with a total investment of 31 million pesos. Over the past five years, collaborative efforts between the Mexican government, the state administration, and the productive sector have amounted to a staggering 472 million pesos.

Future Plans and Community Support

In addition to the immediate support for fishing and aquaculture, Castro Cosío outlined further plans to assist the Comondú community. He mentioned ongoing projects aimed at supporting women oyster producers and the introduction of electricity in San Juanico, as well as improvements to roads and highways in the region.

Furthermore, he announced an emergency pothole repair plan for Ciudad Insurgentes, San Carlos, and Ciudad Constitución, which will commence as soon as asphalt becomes available. This multifaceted approach reflects the government's commitment to not only bolster local industries but also improve overall community infrastructure and quality of life.

As the governor continues to advocate for the fishing and aquaculture sectors, the focus remains on sustainable development and enhancing the livelihoods of those who depend on these industries. The recent investments are a testament to the ongoing efforts to support and empower local producers in Baja California Sur.
