Governor Castro Highlights Cultural Achievements in Baja California Sur

Commitment to Cultural Heritage

During a recent Conference for the People, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío reaffirmed his dedication to the culture and traditions that define the people of Baja California Sur. He emphasized the importance of remembering their roots, stating,

"We cannot and must not forget our roots."

The governor acknowledged the efforts of Víctor Hugo Caballero Gutiérrez and the staff of the Sudcaliforniano Institute of Culture (ISC) for their work over the past five years. He particularly noted their success in expanding opportunities for artists and communities, as well as the restoration of spaces dedicated to cultural activities.

Restoration of Cultural Venues

The ISC has focused on the recovery and rehabilitation of cultural venues, many of which faced structural issues and deficiencies in electrical and hydraulic installations. The head of the ISC explained that the distribution of resources has been based on the principle that all municipalities deserve equal priority, considering their history, heritage, and artistic activity when preparing the annual budget.

"We have ensured that all municipalities are treated with the same priority, taking into account their history and artistic contributions."

Additionally, he highlighted the decentralization of support, revealing that currently, 90% of the budget allocated for artistic projects, scholarships, and economic incentives is distributed through public calls. This approach has broadened opportunities for creators and communities throughout the state.

Promoting Artistic Initiatives

In terms of artistic promotion, the ISC has reactivated programs such as Community Art in various municipalities and the State Craft Award. New initiatives like Traveling Art and the Joy Forum have also been introduced. As a result of these efforts, over a thousand artists have benefited, and hundreds of cultural projects, workshops, and programs have been supported across the region.

The ISC has organized more than 300 visual arts exhibitions and has hosted performances by national and international artists, theatrical productions, and various shows, while also celebrating the festivals and traditions of local communities.

"There are always new projects, new challenges, and more community members eager to participate or develop activities. We will continue to work, honoring our word and responsibility towards such a valuable institution."
