Breast Cancer Awareness

Importance of Early Detection

On the occasion of the International Day of Breast Cancer Awareness, Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío participated in a commemoration event held at the "Dr. Rubén Cardoza Macías" State Oncology Center. During the event, he emphasized the critical need for accessible diagnostic and treatment services. Castro highlighted that early detection is key to improving survival rates and ensuring that women receive timely care.

"It is essential to facilitate access to medical services that can detect potential warning signs of breast cancer,"

Castro stated.

The governor's remarks came as he listened to the inspiring testimony of Alma Lemus, a breast cancer survivor. Her story resonated with many attendees and underscored the importance of community support and awareness in the fight against this disease. Castro pledged to support the Reto association by securing a space for their activities aimed at assisting patients.

Community Support and Healthcare Initiatives

In his address, Castro recognized the invaluable contributions of healthcare professionals, families, and civil organizations that provide support during the various stages of the illness. He acknowledged the emotional and physical toll that cancer takes on patients and their loved ones.

"We must acknowledge the dedication of medical staff and the resilience of families who stand by their loved ones during these challenging times,"

he remarked.

Additionally, Castro highlighted the “Democracia Familiar” strategy, which is promoted by the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (SEDIF). This initiative encourages families to engage in self-care and participate actively in the prevention of diseases, including breast cancer.

Equipment and Health Services in BCS

In terms of healthcare infrastructure, Governor Castro reported that Baja California Sur is equipped with 12 mammography machines, which are crucial for early detection of breast cancer. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with various health institutions, including the ISSSTE, IMSS, and IMSS-Bienestar, which provide essential health services across all five municipalities in the state.

"Our administration prioritizes health, and we are committed to maintaining prevention as a vital tool for early identification of breast cancer,"

Castro reiterated.

The governor's commitment to health services reflects a broader strategy to enhance the quality of care available to residents of Baja California Sur. By focusing on prevention and early detection, the administration aims to provide greater opportunities for timely treatment and support for those affected by breast cancer.

As the event concluded, the emphasis on community involvement and the importance of regular medical check-ups served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to combat breast cancer and support those impacted by it.
